Edinburgh now has a pioneering Garden Share Scheme based at the charity Care and Repair and funded by The ClimateChallenge Fund (CCF). We match garden owners who have garden space to share with gardening volunteers who want to grow more fruit and vegetables.
Does it get you down looking out at a garden that isn’t what it used to be or perhaps never has been what you’d like it to be? Do you worry about managing your garden or do you just not have the time or energy to keep it under control? Would you like to eat more fresh food but cannot grow it yourself? If that sounds like you and you would be willing to welcome a volunteer gardener into your garden to grow fruit and vegetables to share, then please contact us at the Edinburgh Garden Share Scheme
We will come and visit you to discuss what might be possible in your garden and do our best to match you up with a reliable volunteer gardener.
Do you want to grow fresh fruit and vegetables but can’t wait for an allotment? Are you interested in gardening but don’t have a garden? You can get healthy, get happy and get your hands dirty now by volunteering to be a gardener with EGSS. Don’t worry if your enthusiasm is greater than your gardening experience. We will offer volunteers training and support. EGSS aims to benefit your community and your health by increasing the amount of locally grown food alongside the exercise and companionship of garden sharing.
Edinburgh Garden Share Scheme aims to encourage a more sustainable use of the environment and improved health through growing and eating more food locally, reducing food waste and increasing composting.
Care and Repair Edinburgh is a charity that has been around for 20 years offeringadvice and practical assistance to older people or people with disabilities to repair, improve or adapt their homes so that they may remain there in comfort and independence.
EGSS supports this aim wanting to reduce anxiety and isolation amongst olderpeople, alongside the wider environmental aims of the Climate Challenge fund.
