We enjoyed an 8-mile circuit from West Linton to Garvald in the early summer. The weather was excellent and we saw curlew, lapwings, larks, a crow mobbing a buzzard and a stoat.
Our annual BBQ attracted some 40 members and their friends. During the meal we were entertained by talented young musicians from St Mary’s School of Music
Badger watches on summer evenings are always popular. This year 24 adults and six children attended 11 watches. No fewer than six badgers were seen and on one evening the count was eight. We were delighted to organise two walks in mid-August as part of the Midlothian Walking Festival. A strenuous 8-mile circuit from Hillend included the tree-lined path from Hillend to Castlelaw and ended with a traverse of Allermuir and Caerketton – a classic Pentland route.
Our other walk was very different. Having installed two wheel chair friendly gates on the road between Flotterstone and The Howe we were delighted to include seven wheel chair users on that six mile walk. In all there were 21 participants and with a burgerstall waiting to meet us at The Howe we had a rather up market picnic lunch.
We have further walks planned for this year and hope to be able to complete some more projects. Additionally, a programme of events for 2010 has been drafted and we have begun the process of revising our project plan for next year.
There’s a lot to do!
