A crowd gathered in Morningside Park on Friday 26 August to celebrate the raising of the Green Flag which was won by the park for the first time this year. Green Flags are awarded by Keep Britain Tidy.
In 2011 they awarded 35 in Scotland; 20 of these were in Edinburgh and of these 3 were in Morningside. In addition to Morningside park which won its award for the first time, Braidburn Valley park also gained its award for the 4th time and hermitage of Braid was also a new winner this year. Braidburn Valley will raise its new flag on Saturday 3 September during its annual Fun Day and hermitage of braid has yet to arrange a date.
In all of these parks the Environmental team of the Neighbourhood Partnership (the local arm of the Council) has worked very hard to maintain and improve standards of planting and cre as well as facilities for the public. In Morningside Park the creation of the Sensory Garden a year ago contributed greatly to the success.
