Most people don’t realise it but the Oxfam we all know has actually been going since 1948. Among its first donations was a set of false teeth! Wonder who bought them?
Since then things have grown a little and Oxfam is now helping people in many of the
poorest countries of the world. It takes a while to get the changes we want – the changes poor communities we work with need.
However hard work pays off. We have made a direct change to international campaigns to ban land mines, cut developing world debt, control the arms trade and change the rules of world trade.
Our fight with poverty and injustice continues…
However we are in need of volunteers to help in this task. If you could find it within yourself to help then all we ask is that you can put in a few hours at our new bookshop on the Royal Mile, just pop in and pick up an application form or phone Neil (our -manager) on 0131 557 3539. Come on, get involved today
Oxfam will have a stand at the Meadows Festival on 7th and 8th June
