The summer golf season at Torphin Hill Golf club is well and truly underway with a fantastic turn out at the first major competition of the season. The eventual winners of the Federation Shield Scratch Competition were the Corinthians from Silverknowes Golf Club and the ‘Old Coughers’ a seniors team from Torphin bagged the Marcus Ward Trophy in the handicap section
As ever competition for the top prizes was fierce with teams entered from a range of golf clubs and workplaces, including the Scottish Parliament. Local MSP David McLeachie entered a team along with his MSP colleagues Tom McCabe and Peter Peacock. All commented on the terrific views from the course and excellent condition of the greens. In fact, it had been over 20 years since Mr McLetchie had played at Torphin but he’s sure to be back again sooner having commented that he was impressed by the quality of the course and the friendliness in the club house.
The club has also been saying hello again to some members who haven’t been able to play for a while; and are really pleased to be welcoming back their members from the British Army who have just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Hopefully they will be fit and ready to enter the club championships that start on the 7th June. The final takes place the following week.
Luckily new members who join after 1st June will be entitled to a free golf lesson from the club professional, as well as a 25% reduction on the membership cost, perhaps this will give new members an extra edge in the competitions!
Finally we wish Steve Bremner from Currie will in his new role at the club as Junior Team Captain. With so many new members in the junior section Steven is confident the team will be lookinh at a winning season.
